The way businesses and recruiters are attracting talent to them is fundamentally shifting. We are definitely now in a candidate driven market, with candidates and talent now choosing wisely the companies and brands they want to work for. 

So, businesses have to adapt their Talent Attraction and Acquisition Strategies to compete in the market place for Top Talent. 

The same goes for Recruitment Agency Owners like myself. 

 

So, what are the trends in Talent Attraction in 2020 and beyond?




1. Talent Attraction is all about Inbound Marketing!
 

Inbound Marketing for Talent Attraction

Think of an inbound marketing funnel, the processes that businesses use to attract and convert customers. Buyer behaviour has fundamentally changed over time.

The traditional ‘push’ marketing techniques such as cold emails and phone calls are being shunned by many consumers today. Not all of them, but certainly there is a shift occurring.

Companies are leveraging what is called ‘pull marketing’ which involves creating content marketing strategies that showcase their brand, product and services that attracts clients and customers to them.

With all marketing strategies, prospects are attracted and nurtured through this marketing funnel until they convert to becoming a customer.

They are then engaged and nurtured by the brand in the hope that they become repeat customers and/or brand advocates. (Your free PR)

 

How does this relate to Talent Attraction?

 

A conversion in Talent Attraction & Recruitment marketing could mean a great candidate applying to your opportunity, or accepting your offer and joining your company.


The ongoing engagement and nurturing of a customer to convert them to become your brand advocate could well be your stellar candidate onboarding process, or your focus on developing a great company culture, or the benefits you provide to your employees.

These candidates/employees then become your biggest fans and enhance your Employer Brand in the candidate market.

The war on talent has never been so fierce. It’s a candidate-driven market now, so businesses need to be able to effectively market and advertise their brand to attract the best talent to them.

In short, you need to attract them to you, just as the lifeblood of any business is attracting customers.

It allows you to showcase for examples your values, culture, benefits to name but a few.

It’s about defining the very essence of your company, so your brand resonates with the aspirations of the talent you are looking to attract.

This will lead to a strong and healthy Talent Pipeline as well as happy and motivated employees as your values are aligned.


Ultimately, a happy and engaged workforce will act as your free Employer Brand PR and Marketing, as they tell others about their positive experience with you.

 

Some stats that demonstrate the importance of a strong Employer Branding Strategy.

 

In a report by Career Arc in 2015, titled, ‘Why & How People Change Jobs’ it was found that the number one obstacle candidates experience when searching for a job is not knowing what it’s like to work at an organization.

According to a Career Builder study conducted in 2018, when making a decision on where to apply for a job, 84% of job seekers say the reputation of a company as an employer is important.
